Hull Rupture hull construction is how you grow your ship in this Steam PC roguelite from Konfa Games: you place new blocks onto the hull, and each block adds empty module slots and changes the path aliens take. This page collects what the developer has said about it. We have not played the game, so everything below comes from the developer's devlogs.
Hull Rupture Hull Construction Basics
The fourth devlog describes Hull Construction as a mode you can open at any time during a run. Opening it pauses the flight, and you choose where to put a randomly offered block that comes with empty module slots.
There are 15 block types. They arrive in a random order, and none comes round again until all 15 have been offered. It replaced the older method of expanding the ship, travelling to a Shipyard, which players found slow. The result is a mix of luck (which block you get) and control (where it goes). Hull Rupture hull construction is meant to give you a say over the route without removing the luck. New players can start with the Hull Rupture beginner guide for the wider run.
Placement Rules
The developer says there are only a few rules:
- A placed block cannot be destroyed.
- Blocks cannot cover the airlock.
- Blocks cannot cover the engine.
Outer hull decoration is cosmetic and does not change enemy routes. Because blocks are permanent, think about the module kits you hold or want before you commit. The devlog warns that a block without room for them can limit you by accident.
Hull Blocks and Module Slots
Each block decides which module slots your ship gets, so the hull blocks you pick shape your ship layout. The devlog gives two examples of fitting turrets to space: a long-range turret suits an open area or an exposed corner, while a short-range turret suits a small enclosed pocket, which you can create by leaving a small gap between blocks.
The devlog also shows that a compact layout puts more modules next to each other. That helps adjacency effects from artifacts, and it shortens the walk for the crew. See Hull Rupture humans for what the crew does, and Hull Rupture turrets for defences.
Using Hull Construction to Lengthen Enemy Routes
The devlog says alien drop pods land across most of the outer surface of the ship, so a longer route around the ship spreads the pods further apart. It adds that bosses always land at the upper far-left of the ship, as far from the airlock as possible, so more distance gives you more time to deal with them before they pile up at the door.
Our reasoning, not a tested result: a longer route should give your turrets more time on each group, and the devlog's second example layout was built for a longer route with more interesting firing positions. The trade-off is fewer adjacent modules, so pick a balance. The Hull Rupture tips page turns this into a short checklist, and good Hull Rupture hull construction is mostly about balancing the two.
The Despot's Maze Quirk
Players found an unplanned trick: building a spiral just outside the airlock to form a "Despot's maze" for enemies arriving from above and below. The developer called it amusing and in keeping with the series, but did not say whether it will stay as it is. Treat it as a community discovery rather than a confirmed strategy.
Hull Rupture Hull Construction FAQ
When can I use Hull Construction?
At any time during a run. The developer says it pauses the flight while you place the offered block.
Can I choose which block I get?
No. The block offered is random, but none repeats until all 15 types have appeared, so you will see each one in time. Where it goes is your choice.
Can I remove or move a block?
The developer says placed blocks cannot be destroyed. Modules and turrets were planned to be movable at a cost in time. Ship names and layouts are on the Hull Rupture ships page.
Does it work the same on every ship and mode?
That has not been published. Hull Rupture hull construction details per ship are missing; the developer has not said how it differs, and the Hull Rupture galaxy map page covers the other main decision layer. An achievement called Arcology asks for 15 sections added in one run, listed on the Hull Rupture achievements page.
