The Hull Rupture galaxy map is the strategy layer between battles in this Steam and PC base-management tower-defense roguelite. The developer's third devlog calls it an extra layer on top of the main loop of managing, expanding and defending your ship, not the sole focus. This page collects what the developer has published about it. We have not played the game, so nothing here is hands-on testing.
Hull Rupture Galaxy Map Basics
Every star on the map is a choice. The map gives you short-term goals between battles, and the devlog says not every destination is equally valuable, so you pick stars based on what your ship needs right now.
There are around 15 types of stars, each with different opportunities and bonuses. The devlog says you cannot visit all of them in a single run. On the Hull Rupture galaxy map, parts of the map start hidden behind fog of war. As you explore, you reveal the type of the stars around you, but not exactly what waits at each one.
Galaxy map generation follows rules and patterns that the developer expects players to learn over several runs. You will not be able to predict everything, but you can plan better routes as you recognize the patterns. A run is still built around 20 waves in Classic Mode; the Hull Rupture ships page covers the modes and ships.
Star Types and Random Events
Random-event stars are the most common example of a star whose exact outcome is hidden. They are one of the main sources of modifiers, and you cannot predict which narrative event appears. Events mix dark humor and absurdism, and they can offer a modifier that changes how you play the rest of a run.
Modifiers are upgrades installed in individual ship modules. You can buy them in shops or get them from events, but the two sources draw from largely different pools. Some shop modifiers never appear in events, and most event modifiers cannot be bought at all. See the Hull Rupture shop page for the buying side.
Events are not fully random. The state of your ship decides whether an event can appear, and single choices can have requirements. The devlog's example is an option to sacrifice 20 humans, which is not available if you have fewer than 20. The rarest events are tied to rare and expensive modules. Humans are covered on the Hull Rupture humans page.
Black Markets
At a Black Market you know you will be able to buy turrets. The developer says that with experience you can learn which turrets can show up there and which never will. The full list of turrets is not published yet, so we cannot say which ones are excluded. For what is known about defense, read the Hull Rupture turrets page.
Guarded Stars
Guarded stars were not in the demo and are planned for the full release. They appear only at higher difficulty levels, so new players can learn the basics first. When you arrive at one, your ship is attacked by extra enemy waves.
- The extra waves do not count toward the 20 waves you need to survive.
- The star gives extra rewards, with extra danger and extra strain on your economy.
- An earlier developer post says some stars on higher difficulties trigger combat encounters in the same way.
The developer has not published which difficulty level first shows guarded stars. The Hull Rupture demo did not include them.
Engine Speed, Fuel and Trades
The devlog frames engine investment as a constant trade-off. Travel speed depends on the number and level of your engines and on the total mass of the ship, so every module you add slows you down.
| Approach | What it costs | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Minimal engines | Slower travel, fewer events and modifiers | More resources for production and defense, less Fuel spent |
| Heavy engines | Many resources and more Fuel | More stars per run, more events and modifiers |
The developer calls both valid. One of the three starting ships is built around low mass and many star visits, but even it cannot reach every star. Markets can also trade Fuel for Minerals, which helps when your Fuel is booming and Minerals are weak. Other early advice is on the Hull Rupture beginner guide and Hull Rupture tips pages, and block placement is on Hull Rupture hull construction.
Wormholes that link distant parts of the Hull Rupture galaxy map are planned; the devlog says you will not know where one leads until you find its other end.
Hull Rupture Galaxy Map FAQ
How many star types are there?
The third devlog says around 15 types of stars, each with different bonuses, and that you cannot visit all of them in one run. The developer has not published a full list of names.
Do Hull Rupture stars show what is on them?
Only partly. Fog of war hides parts of the map, and once revealed, a star shows its type but not exactly what happens there. A Black Market, for example, always sells turrets, while a random-event star hides which event you get.
What are guarded stars?
Guarded stars are planned for the full release and appear only at higher difficulty. They send extra waves at your ship that do not count toward the 20, and they give extra rewards.
Can I visit every star in a run?
No. Even the low-mass ship made for many visits cannot reach all stars, so you must prioritize what your build needs. Some achievements track map activity; see the Hull Rupture achievements page.
